ABOUT THE HURDY-GURDY

The hurdy-gurdy is a bizarre medieval instrument - a combination of a stringed instrument & keyboard. It works by turning a crank (with the right hand) which provides constant friction on the gut strings; the left hand operates a keyboard to provide melody.

You can hear examples of it on the CD "Vida," such as this excerpt:
Vida-Guillaume de Dalon

If you really like the sound of this instrument, you might enjoy my earlier CD, entitled "Nothin' But Hurdy-Gurdy".... as the name suggests, it is just solo instrumental music.

For exquisite workmanship and great sound samples, visit the website of Helmut Gotschy - a German luthier, certainly one of the best alive for creating these instruments.
